St. Luke's has stood at the centre of Burton village for 150 years and is a popular location for village weddings, baptisms and funerals. We meet together every Sunday morning at 9:30am to celebrate our faith, with a parish eucharist (Holy Communion) service and throughout the week various church and community groups meet in the adjacent church hall. Do come and join us.

St. Luke’s was built between 1874 – 6 to the designs of Benjamin Ferrey and Son. The foundation stone was laid on 15th April 1874 and the church was opened in 1876. It is of red brick with limestone dressings. The west end of the church faces onto the village green and is thus a notable landmark in the village. Inside, St. Luke’s features panels on the east wall featuring the Creed, Lord’s Prayer and Ten Commandments.

On the West wall is the village war memorial with many names from both world wars and more recent conflicts.

The adjacent Church Hall is much used by various clubs and events and features modern facilities.

There is some parking in the church grounds and plenty on Salisbury Road.

Sadly, we’re not been able to leave St. Luke’s open each day, but if you would like to come to the church for some quiet prayer and contemplation you can arrange this by getting in touch with the St Luke’s Church Wardens via our Contacts Page.

Every two years we hold a Christmas Tree Festival, with many local groups and schools decorating a tree.  This is much enjoyed by the local community (photo below).

Churchyard

We do have a churchyard behind the church.

We also have a Churchyard Management System which allows us to quickly search and locate burials, which go back to 1879, in our churchyard.

If you are researching your family history and believe your ancestors may be buried at St Luke’s, do contact us; we can soon find out and send you a detailed breakdown of the information we hold. We may even be able to add some details to a loved one’s record for future generations to see; do contact the administrator at St Luke’s to see if we can help.

Remember too, if you are planning a new memorial please check the Rules and Regulations that apply to memorials in the Churchyard.
